President Arif Alvi gave the oath to Kakar, who was dressed in a gray suit, at a ceremony conducted on Independence Day at Islamabad’s Aiwan-i-Sadr.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Asim Munir, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen. Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi, Chief of Inter Services Intelligence Lt. Gen. Nadeem Anjum, and former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif all took part in the ceremony.

Ex-National Assembly speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, Governors of Sindh Kamran Tessori, Punjab Balighur Rehman, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Haji Ghulam Ali, PTI Senator Shahzad Waseem, and the PPP’s Faisal Karim Kundi were prominent attendees at the ceremony.

Kakar met with military officials and shook their hands after taking the oath. At the Prime Minister’s House, he was afterwards given a guard of honor.

He was greeted at the PM House by Shehbaz, who also gave him a guard of honor before he left, according to state-run PTV News.

A team from Balochistan, including Senator Sarfraz Bugti and Mir Khalid Langov, reportedly paid Kakar a visit at the PM House, according to state-run radio station Radio Pakistan.

As the country prepares for elections, Kakar’s first job as interim premier will be to select a cabinet.

Following discussions between Shehbaz and former opposition leader Raja Riaz and several days of rumors over the likely candidate for the role, Kakar was named the interim premier on Saturday.
